August 19, 2021 - Dalhousie at Ryerson West
August 19, 2021
Dalhousie at Ryerson West
It’s
another
fine
summer
day
in
Winnipeg.
Not
too
hot
so
out
metal
detecting
I
go.
It
has
been
a
while
since
I
last
went
out
and
I
was
craving
adventure.
Ryerson
School
has
a
large
play
field
on
both
the
East
and
the
West
side
of
the
school.
The
west
field
runs
parallel
to
Dalhousie
Drive
and
there
are
several
large
older
trees
which
provide
nice
shade
from
a
hot
sun
while
detecting.
I’ve
also
learnt
that
an
area
is
never
completely
cleaned
out.
I
have
detected
in
this
general
area
before
and
there
are
always
more
treasures
to
be
discovered.
Today
was no exception.
My
total
CASH
haul
was
.31c.
Two
dimes,
both
from
1985,
one
seriously
bent?
Ten
Canadian
pennies,
mostly
from
the
1980’s,
one
dated
1968
and
one
US
penny:
1978.
I
also
found
two
metal
buttons
and
lots
of
rusty
bottle
caps.
Hey,
not
bad…
only
two
pull
tabs
today
but
lots
of
foil
and
broken
metal
parts
from
cars.
Also
found
was
a
Marihuana
Vape
Pipe
“Ghost
50mg”.
For
better
or
for
worse,
it’s
a
sad
tribute
to
what
artifacts
future
detectorists
will
be
finding
from
the
era
we
live
in.
I
also
found
several
pieces
of
chain
link
fence.
It
brought
me
right
back
to
last
year’s
finds…
same
ole
same
ole.
Any
time
you
detect
near
chain
link
fences,
all
sorts
of
fence
parts
and
pieces
show
up.
One
nice
item
found
was
what
looks
like
a
brooch
in
the
shape
of
a
Cowboy
Boot.
Key
word:
Looks
like.
It’s
terribly
damaged
if
it
is
indeed a brooch but interesting nonetheless.
